Macabre Style in Fashion

In works of art, the adjective macabre  means «having the quality of having a grim or ghastly atmosphere». The macabre works to emphasize the details and symbols of death. The term also refers to works particularly gruesome in nature. (Wilkipedia)

The curiosity for the morbid has always been present in human culture,inspired by the Victorian English era, when life expectancy was really short, a whole culture grow around death. Women wore black for years after the death of a loved one and kept in small finely worked medallions known as «Memento Mori» samples of hair, ashes or bones.

Inspired by this ideas of darkness and death, a whole style appears on the catwalks, ranging from the simplest to Haute Couture.
